As graphic design students, our team’s book, State of Mind, was created to advertise typefaces that would be sold by our fictional type foundry, Type/Sthetic. Type/Sthetic’s passion for type pushed boundaries beyond the digital world, into the “outside” world and into users’ hands. State of Mind explained how specific typefaces contained qualities and personalities that can be found in neighborhoods close to New York City’s subway system. By letting users explore New York City, with State of Mind in hand, users will memorize each font’s personality and style based on their experience exploring New York City. In addition, the front cover of this book depicted an abstract representation of New York City’s subway system using a laser cutter.
